STATEMENTS:

Anonymous Until Now  Photography Series
 
My photographic series “Anonymous Until Now” focuses on environments in transition by employing one of the most elemental forms in nature, a sphere or orb. For the series, I photographed common materials such as bubble gum, air freshener gels, glue, shampoo, and glitter. By pushing visual parameters through the transformation of scale and substance, the materials diverge from both their physical and contextual sources. Ordinary materials are imbued with transcendent qualities. Energy is apparently released and exchanged as twinkling masses metamorphose or come into being.

As an attempt to flee the static image, I was interested in depicting ephemeral and transitory moments. One way of accomplishing this was by exploring different qualities of light such as fugitive light trails, reflections, and translucence. This exploration rendered luminescent entities expressing fragility and substantiality at once.

These photographic aggregates and dissolutions are ambiguous in size but suggest a scale that perhaps would not be visible by the unaided eye. The resulting compositions create a lucid yet fictional space and are a poetic contemplation on the wonder and concern I have for massive environmental transformations, as well as the seductive and tenuous beauty and power of the unseen.

Encounters Photography Series

My video and photography series entitled “Encounters” both focus on similar themes. The photographs depicts situations occurring along the increasingly porous borders between "natural"and human habitats. A cultural cross-contamination occurs as both worlds are altered by the presence of each other.
